Instead of writing a long blog post of my own, I offer you two biblical excerpts from Elihu’s speeches to Job after Job’s ignorant friends had tried to share their human wisdom with him who would suffer a lot. Sometimes we cannot understand why God lets us suffer without telling us WHY and HOW LONG it might take. But there must be a reason why suffering is necessary in our lives, even if we cannot see the reason right now. Here is wisdom that Elihu, inspired by the Holy Spirit, suggested to Job on (1) ‘How does God make us hear Him?’ and on (2) ‘Why does He not answer us as we expect Him to do?’
(1) How does God make us hear Him?
He delivers the afflicted by their affliction and opens their ear by adversity.
He also allured you out of distress into a broad place where there was no cramping, and what was set on your table was full of fatness. “But you are full of the judgment on the wicked; judgment and justice seize you. Beware lest wrath entice you into scoffing and let not the greatness of the ransom turn you aside.
Will your cry for help avail to keep you from distress, or all the force of your strength? Do not long for the night, when peoples vanish in their place. Take care; do not turn to iniquity, for this you have chosen rather than affliction.
Behold, God is exalted in his power; who is a teacher like him? Who has prescribed for him his way, or who can say, ‘You have done wrong’?” (Job 36:15-23 ESV)
(2) Why does He not answer us as we expect Him to do?
Why do you contend against him, saying, ‘He will answer none of man’s words’?
For God speaks in one way, and in two, though man does not perceive it.
In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men, while they slumber on their beds, then he opens the ears of men and terrifies them with warnings, that he may turn man aside from his deed and conceal pride from a man; he keeps back his soul from the pit, his life from perishing by the sword.
Man is also rebuked with pain on his bed and with continual strife in his bones, so that his life loathes bread, and his appetite the choicest food. His flesh is so wasted away that it cannot be seen, and his bones that were not seen stick out. His soul draws near the pit, and his life to those who bring death.
If there be for him an angel, a mediator, one of the thousand, to declare to man what is right for him, and he is merciful to him, and says, ‘Deliver him from going down into the pit; I have found a ransom; let his flesh become fresh with youth; let him return to the days of his youthful vigor’; then man prays to God, and he accepts him; he sees his face with a shout of joy, and he restores to man his righteousness.
He sings before men and says: ‘I sinned and perverted what was right, and it was not repaid to me. He has redeemed my soul from going down into the pit, and my life shall look upon the light.’
“Behold, God does all these things, twice, three times, with a man, to bring back his soul from the pit, that he may be lighted with the light of life.” (Job 33:13-30 ESV – emphasis in italics added)
Our only mediator and true light of the world that enlightens all people is, as we know now, our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, we must be cautious to not pass judgment on other people before His time (i.e.,The Final Judgment). What is more important for us is to pray for their salvation, even and especially if they do us wrong. We should not fret about wrongful politicians, greedy economic leaders, or disgustful journalists although we should always try to discern the spirits that have driven them to do the wrong thing. Nonetheless, if we share a little bit of God’s heart, we will pray for these people as He nudges us. You and I might know that our old nature does not want to pray such prayers; instead, the old Adam seeks revenge when being wronged. But revenge is mine, says the Lord (see the last Scripture beneath). While our task is to love our enemies so that they might be saved. The apostle Paul said,
[…] I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.
This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time. (1 Tim 2:1-6 ESV)
Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. (Rom 12:17-19 NKJV)
Yea Sue its like a friend of mine used to say to me when I wanted to know the how & why—-Dont worry bout it junior !

Wonderfully said. Thank you 🙂
Prayers of thanksgiving, of supplication, of intercessions are always welcomed by our Creator God, our Advocate Jesus Christ who showed us the way and the Holy Spirit who is always with those who choose to be in God’s Sovereignty.
We’re being cleanse ~”Blows that hurt cleanse away evil, As do stripes the inner depths of the heart.” (Prov 20:30). Changing our ways, our thinking.
Thank you for always staying true. Thank you for your continual prayers and your insightfulness. My prayers are with you. God bless you richly always.

You are very welcome, Aida. Thank YOU for your encouraging words and prayers as well. 😊🙏🏼
This Scripture you quoted is pretty ‘ouch’ but true, nonetheless. ⭐
Every blessing from God! 🕊
Praying for you, too. 🙏🏼❤🤗

The proverb itself is pretty intense.. I quoted the last line of 30 verses.
The words within shows life’s core the drunkenness of society in (one way or another), as a whole. Its full of intense revelations of ourselves. The rough parts we go through on this journey we call life and its consequences, the pros, the cons. And through it all God is reassuring.
Bible Study Tools has a commentary on ‘Proverbs 20’ by Matthew Henry. In it he paints an interesting picture of each verse. Although i differ slightly on the last verse.
Everyone of us have our ‘blows’ in life, the affronts we deal with, get up from, on top of our own life in general, as helping her little girl get well. The lessons that we hopefully learn from cleanses us. As it penetrates our heart to realize, see the bigger picture.
Knowing God loves us, always there to help us through our difficulties is a calming balm.
I meant no hard feelings on the “ouch” moment verse. My intensions were to get you off your own rough patches. I felt lead to share, for both of us.
God bless you and yours Susanne, 🙏pray your little one is well soon..lotza❤🕊😇

I meant no hard feelings, either, Aida. When I said ‘ouch’ I meant that it might hurt a bit as someone reads it for the first time. My trials at the moment are different ones than in the past, however, it seems we need to be continually in need of God’s help as we are confronted with our neediness in all areas of life. Strange wording, I know… 😉
I believe our good times can become our worst times if we forget about Him and stray off then. From hence, all trials make sense (whether we like them or not) as they always exert a pull on us back toward Him who alone might change our perspective.
May God bless you and yours also, Aida.
Much love, ❤ ❤ ❤

How true are your words. The evil one is always looking for our weakest moments to attack, to get us to focus on anything else (including our pain), then on our Savior and friend. But God is also there showing us our trials is a means to know Him better and stay the coarse.
I too, agree that verse does hold a punch for someone reading it for the first time and might give the wrong intention. That I had to elaborate my thoughts and explain why, after your reply.
As always thank you for your understanding and caring. Sending you much love as well and peace in your life. Blessings always!

Dear Susanne,
You and I (and many of His saints) live in constant pain, but this blog of yours has brought some things into focus that I never saw so clearly before. Your quote from Elihu, I had never given much thought, but as I sought the Lord about it (I think I always ran from it before), some things became more evident.
“He delivers the afflicted by their affliction and opens their ear by adversity.” (Job 36:15, ESV2011)
What an interesting truth! We might think that we are delivered from affliction by God keeping us from being afflicted, but no… it is in our afflictions that we are healed. We all know that verse, “By His stripes we were healed,” but have you ever considered that it is God who lays on us those stripes? Read Hebrew ch. 12 again! Our Father “rebukes and chastens those whom He loves and scourges those who are His sons.” So, you see He delivers us from affliction by our affliction… we are healed by His stripes. The afflictions we bare in this body of sin delivers us from being worldly minded that we might seek Him.
Then there is this thing about God wanting us to hear Him. God finetunes our hearing by putting us through trials and adversity. When everything is going our way and we are comfortable, our thoughts are more often taken up with the pleasures of this world, but God wants us to abide with Him in heavenly places IN Christ Jesus. The more we suffer adversity, the more we become aware of just how empty this life is and the more we seek those things which are eternal that CANNOT be shaken. In short, adversity opens our spiritual ears.
His ways are not our ways and His thoughts are not our thoughts… until we come into that perfect fellowship of the Father and the Son and we arrive there by being stripped of all that is capable of being shaken in this world.
“Who his own self bore our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes you were healed. For you were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.” (1Pet 2:24-25, KJ2000)
Love you IN Christ, dear sister, and I thank HIM daily for this sweet fellowship,
Michael

Wow! Great insights, Michael! ⭐ Indeed, as I just answered Aida who quoted this verse about stripes that cleanse our inner man, I came to similar conclusions about why we need trials in our life. As much as our old nature wants to be free from problems, pains, and perishability, we need to be confronted with our inability to deal with these things daily so that we seek Him for supernatural help to deliver us from our old nature with its limited one-dimensional thought life. We need a divine perspective on everything!
Michael, I am so grateful for this sustaining, refreshing, and often comforting sweet fellowship with you, too.
Love you in our Lord,
Susanne

Susanne, one of the trials that I don’t understand is how uninspired and blaw we can get in such a short time after having the Spirit speak or move through us. This is one of those times for me.
Unless He comes trough, for me to try and fake it will only fail. It comes down to, “When all else fails, pray!” And even more, “When all things are working out according to plan, PRAY HARDER!” Like you have so often pointed out, without His Spirit moving in and through us, we can do nothing. God does not need our works of nothing. He waits for us to rest in His presence so that HE can act. “Unless the branch abides in the Vine, it abides alone.” It is always up to the Vine. All we can do is rest in Him.
Your brother who has been greatly blessed by you,
Michael

Yes, affliction is for our good, however much our flesh dislikes it:
Psa 119:65 TETH. Thou hast dealt well with thy servant, O Jehovah, according unto thy word.
66 Teach me good judgment and knowledge; For I have believed in thy commandments.
67 Before I was afflicted I went astray; But now I observe thy word.
68 Thou art good, and doest good; Teach me thy statutes.
…
Psa 119:71 It is good for me that I have been afflicted; That I may learn thy statutes.
72 The law of thy mouth is better unto me Than thousands of gold and silver.
73 YODH. Thy hands have made me and fashioned me: Give me understanding, that I may learn thy commandments.

Yes!! 🙂 Esp. Ps 119, verse 67 confirms that which is so important to learn and know for us (experiential knowledge, that is). Thank you for this very helpful contribution, dear Louise! ⭐

It was interesting that there was a sort of theme that “something evil this way comes” in my readings this week and yet I was still blind-sided by an attack that came.
I was struggling with a co-worker and took to heart the need to pray for her rather than complain about her so I also lifted all the difficult folks that I am involved with after reading your exhortation. I do not think any of the people that I am associated with at the farm (except my employers housekeeper and one niece) are born from above. Religious or ‘spiritual’ but I am doubtful of their salvation.
Being as God is concerned with conforming us who ARE HIS to the image of His Son, THAT can be rather painful 😦 but as we have discovered also wonderful 🙂 to the “flesh”.Like crucified painful!
SO I thought I was progressing right along and a situation arose the next evening with a different person – this had been simmering for a few months and finally came to a boil. I can ‘justify’ how I feel every which way but it would not be of any eternal value to do so. I was so sure that I had this covered! I am/was naked…
quotes from commenter:
thelostcoinblog: “”Blows that hurt cleanse away evil, As do stripes the inner depths of the heart.” (Prov 20:30). Changing our ways, our thinking.’
Susanne: ‘This Scripture you quoted is pretty ‘ouch’ but true, nonetheless.’
thelostcoinblog: I too, agree that verse does hold a punch for someone reading it…
(end quotes)
I ended the last quote purposely there as I am the someone punched that is reading it! LOL – what are the odds of that?!
Without a lot of the details I ended up with a punch in the face and thrown on the ground etc. Well not a great way to end my evening at work. It was a boarder that has ‘issues’ with me and I have to confess that I pushed a button I should have left alone. I allowed myself to get angry and my ‘perceived rights’ were being violated. I am now thinking that that punch was a blow to cleanse ME, quite obviously.
Besides, the thing needed to come out into the open anyway.
I don’t know if anyone here will see this as a failed test. I think it was and it wasn’t.
Anyway, for all of the chaos and confusion the ONE THING I realized was that “I” did not retaliate physically!!! That for me was HUGE! I did call the police though so the matter would be recorded but that was due to this woman’s tendency to fabricate things and I wanted to address the physical violence. I have no intent to press any charges but wanted the damage on my face recorded in lieu of this happening again.
I am ok. Just a bruise.
No, I was not being ‘persecuted for righteousness sake’, and I did not ‘bear it patiently’ unfortunately, Yes, I did a ton of things wrong. I can’t change it but I don’t think that the Lord showed this to me unless He was inviting me to let Him take this.
The other ‘theme’ I had noticed this past week was on meekness. Now THAT is an “ouch” too…It grows so there is HOPE 🙂 for me!
Well I sure missed all of the hints…
Will I have a job tomorrow? Don’t know. My employer never believes me so I will be the villain.
I am not in a fellowship right now so would sure appreciate the prayers of the saints here.
I am sad that I succumbed to that rights issue but so elated that I did not react to the violence – in my not so distant past the situation may have turned very bad..
IF I am not fired – I do know to steer clear of this situation since I still am not like Christ in this area…The problem going forward is that I take care of 11 horses where she is keeping her 3 so I have to be in that area to do my job. Testing Testing Testing…
I go back and forth staying at this job because I have such character flaws and one place is as good as another for the Lord to address them IMO. I go where I go – I can leave the location but not the “me” unless I leave it on the Cross!
Maybe this will encourage someone here?
As you quoted in your post, Susanne:
Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. (Rom 12:17-19 NKJV)

Oh, my dear Judi!!! 😦 What you have gone through is so terrible!!!
I wish I could hug you and comfort you – XOXO – as my flesh is just the same! I cannot love anyone without God’s help and my first impulse when getting wronged is ALWAYS to take revenge UNLESS Jesus takes over, to my surprise. I am as wretched as can be, believe me!!! 😛
I am also sorry that I just found this comment by you in my trash folder, something which happens pretty often with the comments.
But, Judi, you can be sure you are in my prayers and on my heart ❤ as to your unpleasant working situation. Btw, I do not think it was wrong to call the police in this case. 🙄 One time I had to inform our management that one of the guys they hired loved to boast with his deeds of darkness. I did not want to reveal anything about that which he had told me, BUT GOD did not let me out of this responsibility, esp. as this guy’s apprentice was listening to his boss (“learning” from him, you know).
I hope and pray your bruise will heal soon and your heart also. That was really an offense by this woman! I would have been mad as well. If God does not do a miracle, our anger remains. I can always only forgive others if He helps me. If He does nothing, I am toast. 😛
Much love to you, dear Judi! ❤ ❤ ❤

Thank you SO much Susanne for your totally transparent reply! I think just knowing sometimes that others ‘have been there’ and know the struggle is a great great help.
I have to laugh here:
Quote from your comment:
” I can always only forgive others if He helps me. If He does nothing, I am toast.” (end quote)
Yep I’ve been toast a few times and no butter!
Well, my employer had a talk with me today. I already knew where I went wrong and did not deny that. The Lord does not let me off so easy LOL. AND I am glad that He does not (after the fact anyway hahaha)
I still for the present have my job. I would like to leave – when I leave – on good terms of course.
The conversation I had with my employer was so eye-opening! I see now where the enemy has infiltrated and interestingly I think this is the same spirit that interfered at my last job. I was fired from that one.
She totally believed the story this woman gave that punched me and it was twisted now and in the past – the past info was unknown to me and was a bald faced lie.
It is a lying and manipulating spirit that majors in causing undiscerning people to believe that the ones controlled by this spirit are being abused – and by me! Ugly…
I let my guard down when this person came and I tried to befriend her.
You may know the story of the almost dead frozen (POISONOUS) snake that the guy brings into the house and puts by the fire to thaw out, out of the kindness of his heart. When the snake has recovered the reptile bites him! As the man is dying he asks the snake, ” WHY? I saved your life – why did you bite me?” The snake replies,”I am a snake”.
SO the enemy has not succeeded thus far but I doubt that he is gone.
I was really shocked to be honest when my boss told me what things that this girl, my present p/t helper, and our maintenance man was telling her about me. There was some truth with many details left out so it was slander at its best.
I have asked my boss to ask ME next time someone says anything about me – while the matter is fresh – so I can tell her if there is any truth in it. There is always another side.
Sorry for taking up so much space dear friend.
I appreciate all of the friends here very much. A comment can not do a great job of all the nuances of what happened and as I said I am far from innocent. The Lord has removed the covers now so I can see what is going on. That in itself should hopefully keep me out of the fangs…
I was told to NEVER call the police again. I told her point blank that should anyone assault me or anyone else here again, I would be calling them. If SHE was attacked would she not want to have police called in?
Well enough of that and thank you with all of my heart for your prayers and love, hugs and kisses. I definitely needed a good hug after all that.
I can not wait for the day when we are all together with our Lord and know Him and one another as we are known. Come Lord Jesus!
Love and Grace dear Susanne, XOXOXO Judi

Just a little bit ago I read or actually ran it through a text to speech program but anyway I finished this morning. I can not disagree with anything you have said here. I know I personally have been through a lot of suffering as of late and if you read my blog has caused some backsliding but that is my fault, not GOD’s. My suffering is some times self-inflicted. Also, I feel the need to share that some times suffering can be so we will be able to show mercy on others or have empathy for others.

Yes, Fred, this is true. I had similar experiences as to people who suffer. The more we have suffered ourselves AND were helped by God, the more compassion we will have on those who suffer the same, esp. if they do not know God yet.
